Ok Robot – Urinagi (2026)
For almost 17 years, give or take, US-based band Ok Robot has existed in its own little space, sparking with energetic performances, magnetic personalities, and a style that could hit you between the eyes. Over the years, the band has morphed, evolved, honed and polished their sound, sauntering through various realms of rock and punk; however, it was in 2022 that the current line-up was established, and Ok Robot’s firm stomp of their musical foot among audiences sounded. Jumping into 2026 with fiery passion bordering on head-whipping insanity, Ok Robot release their original single, ‘Urinagi’.
Recorded and produced with Raul “Riff” Cuellar, known for his work with NOFX, The Interupters and Rancid, ‘Uninagi’ is just over two minutes of frustration and angst flushed in a rambunctious sonic wrapper. Sprinkling the track with his magical production dust, the crashing drums (courtesy of Sage Weeber) collide with a pulsating bass, as a scorching guitar weaves about with a silvery tail; yet, everything remains intact despite the tempestuous attitude. Moreover, the female vocals appear to dance along while dancing across every note, capturing your heart but also pulling you to whirl, twirl, and shout out with a liberating roar.
Penned over the course of a year, shifting, shaping and moulding it to a relatable rush of bombastic noise, ‘Urinagi’ delves into themes of oppression, resilience, and overcoming adversity with personal intimacy and bold connections. Ok Robot explains:
“The story of this song is based on a wrestling move of the same name that is a take-down move. In some way, a metaphor of how a lot of people are kept down and pretend they’re happy for the sake of not being rude. And on a grand scale, how minority groups are kept down and forced to smile, forced to be polite, forced to be digestible for the sake of being accepted…”
In addition to the single, Ok Robot released an official music video for ‘Urinagi’. You can view it below and/or on their YouTube channel.
