Patience Please – Madelaine (2026)
Should you take a fancy to the likes of Coldplay, Sam Fender or The Fray, the chances are you’d take a shine to London-based trio Patience Please. On the surface, their fresh-faced charm and sweet smiles make you think: “Aww, such nice, decent, sweet boys”; however, while they might shine with innocence, a simmering profundity and raw emotional depth exist in their music. With only a few singles to their name, they might be considered newbies in the scene; yet, they are already receiving rave reviews, support from BBC Introducing and Radio 2, international airplay, and quickly turning heads far beyond their UK borders. The latest addition to their discography is the single, ‘Madelaine’.
Produced by Sam Grade, ‘Madelaine’ is the next single off Patience Please’s upcoming debut EP, set for release on February 27th. From the outset, listening to ‘Madelaine’ is like walking along a sonic path – bare and empty with brush on the outskirts; the perfect tone for this song of heartache.
Ollie Palmer’s rhythmic guitar flutters across with a chilly breath, then Tommy Lane’s drums beat in the background like a pulsating beat – steady and anchoring, but also kind of creepy and breath-taking. Silky indie-pop chills brush your skin, then Arthur Marriot’s lead guitar runs across with classic rock heaviness. The flourish of subtle strings ebbs and flows, upping the vulnerability, fragility, poignancy and melancholy. Moreover, Palmer’s rich vocals dance across and, while rooted in painful confusion, it has warmth, heart and makes you want to hold his hand and give him a cup of healing tea.
“This song was written in a relaxed, open, and vulnerable state, where I felt free to spill my thoughts onto the page without judgment. It came from my first experience of heartbreak, a heady mix of confusion, hope and despair colliding at once. Those emotions naturally shaped the lyrics, leaving them simple and honest, allowing the music that followed to remain raw and uninhibited.” – Ollie Palmer on ‘Madelaine’
Sincere, sentimental and brimming with raw honesty, Patience Please wrote the theme to broken heart, painful love songs. This is my introduction to the trio, and I am eager to hear their upcoming EP.
In addition to the single, Patience Please released an official music video for ‘Madelaine’. You can view the video below and/or their YouTube channel.
