Gas Station Boner Pills – UnHappy Hour (2026)
Beginning as part of an elaborate joke with their first show in 2022, Gas Station Boner Pills quickly established themselves as a force of punk-rock nature across the USA. From notable festivals, such as Muddy Roots, 40 Fest, Punk Rock Hoedown, and Creepy Fest, to rave reviews on The Punk Site, The Bad Copy, Punk News and New Noise Magazine, it’s clear that the three-piece group are sweeping across the land, wreaking havoc and leaving a stunned, but rather satisfied, audience in their wake.
Recorded and produced at Led Belly Studio, Sean Manos (drums), Sam Wilson (electric guitar), and Shilo Lorenz (bass) hit you in the face with their five-track EP, UnHappy Hour. From the opening track, ‘These Pants Ain’t Gonna Shit Themselves’, to the closer, ‘Close Out Your Tab’, Gas Station Boner Pills twirl, twist, jump, pound, thrash, scorch and march in a frenzied brush of urgency. Drums pulsate, while the bass stomps along, the soaring guitar zigs and zags across the melody with a blazing white light, and the vocals rush into your ears in screaming glory.
I might mention a lilt of Sex Pistols wavering across UnHappy Hour, but the vintage punk music seems to be wound in rich, full-bodied tones; it’s like the skeleton is raw punk, while the muscles and meat are a little warmer and textured. In ‘Glory Hole’, I hear a bit of a classic rock guitar crescendo sitting in the midst of the track; however, it’s blown to pieces with the abrupt, 46-second blast of ‘Whisky Dick’ – a slap shoving you back into the mosh-pit with a “stay there” attitude.
Which track is my favourite? It’s difficult to tell. ‘Glory Hole’ holds a particular fancy because you see a brief speck of rock-tinged light in the hurricane. Then again, ‘Whiskey Dick’ slams you face down with pure punk passion. Yet, I feel the favourite would have to be ‘Close Out Your Tab’. A powerful melody in the whirlwind of drums, bass and guitar, but the comedic lyricism leaves you with an amused grin on your face. The final lyrics: “…Well, fine, fuck you then” seem to capture the off-handed, careless, rambunctious nature of the punk-stuffed party.
So, what do I think of Gas Station Boner Pills and UnHappy Hour? Reaching beyond the new EP, the lads use their music to wriggle into your ear, smash about your brain, and leave you gasping for breath. With UnHappy Hour, Gas Station Boner Pills is the vodka shot you know you shouldn’t have, the crazy shouts and dances you black out, and the throbbing hangover in the morning – it was worth it, though.
