Absinthe Vows – This Will Be The End Of Everything (2026)

Absinthe Vows compose a gaunt record steeped in prophetic energy about the state of the world on their recent single, ‘This Will Be The End Of Everything’. An example of purposeful minimalism and genre blending, the track feels like pinching society to let everyone know they are not living in a dream world.

A simple pulsating synth line and ominous bass strums signal that something unavoidable is coming. That something is the band’s lead singer’s hammering vocal performance as he follows the strumming and striking snares, using allusions to speak on a disconnection with ourselves and each other. The vocals sneer and hit with a prophetic-like delivery.

Everything that Absinthe Vows feel is wrong with the world is not only in the song’s lyrics, but is felt in every element of the music. The few instruments and bare vocals, with stark background vocals by the time of the refrain, “This is the end”, are all this song needs to get you to pay attention. When the post-punk bareness effortlessly drops into the upswing of hip-hop/ trap drums, the rapid hi hats, perfectly EQ’d to snap, get your head nodding while the band ground themselves deeper into their disdain for the state of the world.

On the breakdown, the band’s lead pushes his voice to its fullest, sounding anguished, accepting what the world is becoming, at one point singing, “No way to slow time”. Here, stalking vocals reel you into the song’s message over a sorrowful bass riff and apocalyptic pads. Horror floats around like a vapour in this soundscape. The dreariness feels less about fidelity to a goth-rock sound, aesthetic and more about communicating the acceptance that horror continues to win out over preserving life for all. Soon, every piece of the song erupts, and their voices rise upward to a possible different future.

Opinions about where humanity is headed come from everywhere now, but there’s a sadness flowing through the song that doesn’t feel self-involved, and while contemptuous, there’s acceptance rather than finger-pointing. Absinthe Vows’ intentional songwriting on ‘This Will Be The End Of Everything’ communicates something meaningful.
