Big Cat Season – I’m in the Wrong (2026)

Giving us all a respite from the gloomy start to 2026, Big Cat Season have delivered a ray of sunshine with their new track ‘I’m in the Wrong’. The song carries the warmth of a late summer evening as the sun creeps over the horizon in a flood of colour, reminiscent of the New England fall foliage this Bostonian duo is surely familiar with.

With a calm opening which sweeps in like a warm breeze, I instantly felt at ease and found it a very therapeutic listen. The synths give the track its uniquely chilled vibe, which allows the listener to appreciate how well the contrast of vocals from Melissa Dudek and Tom Durkin complements each other, like the ebb and flow of the tides. Being a fan of bands like Mazzy Star and The Perishers, I was instantly captivated by Big Cat Season. They are an act whose art just seems effortless, like they are just meant to be making music together. Even though the “I’m in the wrong” doesn’t change throughout the 4 minutes 6 seconds, it never lost my attention. If anything, I just sank further in the tranquil pool of sound and just wanted to hit repeat to enjoy it all over again.

I was delighted to discover that the release of ‘I’m in the Wrong’ was part of their new EP (Summer), which did not disappoint and included much of the same dreamy synth-laden pop. Highlights for me included the opener ‘Deathbed Memories’, ‘Everything is Cyanide’, and my personal favourite, the penultimate track of the EP, ‘I’ll Always Meet You in the Woods’, due to its darker tone and more intense cinematic sound. (Summer) also told me a lot about the musical intelligence of this duo, specifically their curation of the record, which is evidenced by the closing track ‘Seventeen’, which, for me, was the perfect way to end the EP.

The rabbit hole I’ve gone down after listening to ‘I’m in the Wrong’ is one I can’t see myself emerging from anytime soon, and I can’t wait to see what Big Cat Season has coming next. Until then, I’ll be singing their praises to anyone who’ll listen!
