Valiancy – Voices (2026)

For several years now, singer-songwriter Valiancy has been entertaining audiences with evocative, poignant music. In 2017, they released the three-track EP, Patience Is A Virtue, followed by ‘Best of Times’ and ‘Cut Loose’ in 2019, until the regular releases ended in 2022 with ‘ENOUGH’. Considering the vast number of singles shared, and this is our introduction to Valiancy, one might consider us really late to the party – better late than never, right? So, join us as we dive headfirst into our first taste of Valiancy with their single, ‘Voices’.

Following their 2022 singles, ‘ENOUGH’ and ‘Another Face In The Crowd’, ‘Voices’ is Valiancy’s return to the streaming world after four years of silence. Self-recorded and produced by US-based Valiancy at Venice International Studios, the new track is a bit of a pivot from the pop-infused singles to a heavier reach into the realm of indie-rock. Created with Moog synthesisers, there is an ambient, haunting haze of sound – almost like walking through a dark sonic forest with perfumed fog lingering in the air.

Bold beats are tinged with a slip of strings, all coming together in a harmonic flood of music; however, within the rhythmic pulse, ‘Voices’ oscillates from a dark, brooding tone to something soothing, calm and gentle. Interestingly, as the song is about inner turmoil and self-conflict, the essence of haunting dread and tragedy exists with vulnerable delicacy; yet, that soothing mellifluousness looks at the more accepting side of things. It’s a single that notices the desperation of negative self-talk, but also exudes a feeling of understanding and the sense of “it’s bad, but you’re not alone”.

Unafraid to delve into the trickier areas of mental health, ‘Voices’ is, as described by Valiancy, a song about “…fighting the negative self-talk and the voices in our heads”. Moreover, it unpicks the much darker and concerning elements of “…suicidal thoughts and tendencies. Valiancy’s rich vocals dance along the track, and it’s the voice that acts as a guide saying “it’s okay, let’s work through this.”

Delicately unpicking desperation and frailty of inner conflict and turmoil, Valiancy unlocks the deeper sides of depression and mental health. If ‘Voices’ is anything to go by, I am eager to hear more from this talented musician.
