The Trusted – Spin (2026)

Known for the meaningful, hard-hitting, vibrant music, laced with profound lyricism, and an energetic, enthusiastic, confident stage presence to boot, The Trusted is a band to hypnotise, enchant, and blow you into an infectious whirl of “have to listen to that tune again and love the vibe”. After 300 shows, two Italian tours, festival performances, headlined BBC Introducing, receiving rave reviews in international publications, featuring on radio stations like BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 2, and constantly growing their fanbase with millions of streams, it’s clear to see that The Trusted is here to stay, and you’d better get used to it.

Following their well-received singles, ‘Levitate’ and ‘Yellowhammer’, Tom Cunningham (vocals), Dale Holt-Mead (guitar), Fin Cunningham (bass), and David Batchelor (drums) stomp into 2026 with the single ‘Spin’. Produced by Reese Broomfield, ‘Spin’ is a bold burst of late 90s/2000s alternative rock washed by hints of pop-rock – all a brilliant drag back to memories of Good Charlotte, Simple Plan and Marianas Trench. Yet, while the visions of me twirling about while screaming along to tracks like ‘I’m Just A Kid’, ‘Perfect’, and ‘Alibi’, ‘Spin’ has an attitude of its own that would have been welcome to my mix of rock-filled fun.

Running at 100 mph, ‘Spin’ kicks in with a pulsating drum beat that, oddly enough, both enhances the urgency of the track while acting like an anchor amidst the frenzy. A bold bass walks beneath, while Holt-Mead’s guitar scorches, slices, weaves, runs, and jolts from each angle. The thing is, and this is something I love about The Trusted, ‘Spin’ is not merely a song; it is an experience.

Vibrant and vivid, the melody is a multi-coloured sonic tunnel with glitter tinting the walls and happy sparkles blinking in the sweet air. For me, it is Tom Cunningham’s vocals that blend in with the instruments for a fast-paced – really fast-paced – ride, while keeping things controlled. Clarity and polished execution in his rich vocals, while still dragging you along in the warm tunnel. Interestingly, while the track has that urgency and bit of frenzy wrapped in a friendly vibe, ‘Spin’s theme is profound, bringing weightiness to the rambunctious tune.

Cunningham shares that the “‘Spin’ is a desperate appeal to mean something. It’s about wanting to matter and wanting to feel real.” The single might be about wanting to feel something real and yearning for meaning, but, for me, the song itself allows you to explode in the feelings of joy and meaning – if only for a few minutes.
