The Kiss That Took A Trip – We are what we protect (2026)

Since its formation in 2006, The Kiss That Took A Trip has undergone evolutions and experimentations, moving from an obscure post-rock to a “…more solid musical entity that is able to produce alternative rock, chamber pop, electronic ambient, instrumental progressive epics, synth pop… all of it while retaining a signature sound.” We spoke with the Spanish artist a few years ago, when he shared that even as a child, he “came up with primitive songs…so the itch was always there…”, and 20 years since its origin, The Kiss That Took A Trip is still going strong.

Beginning a year-long celebration of its 20th anniversary, M.D. Trello (the brain behind The Kiss That Took A Trip) releases his single ‘We are what we protect’. Self-recorded, penned, composed and produced at his home studio, the new track is soothing, gentle, calming and sincere; the deep breath in the twirl of uncertain reality.

A piano-driven ballad with wisps of strings slipping in and out of the melody, ‘We are what we protect’ doesn’t necessarily lean to any genre or era, but appears timeless, ageless, and holds your heart in its mystical energy. Trello notes that in song, he has been “…more daring with vocals.” He says he’s no singer, and people can probably tell; however, the raspiness in his voice perfectly tops a moving melody. The imperfection enhances the song’s honesty, originality, and intimacy.

With the promise of new singles throughout 2026, I am eager to sit back and listen to the current discography and anticipate the future.
