Sponsian – The Big Disconnect (2026)

While the quartet Sponsian may have only a few releases to their name, starting with the 2025 EP, True Fiction, the group is by no means a newbie to the music scene. Joining the talents of veteran artists Sean Dunn (guitar and vocals), Neel Parmar (bass), Andrew Hayward (drums), and Sukhpal Bhogal (lead guitar), Sponsian finds the sweet spot between alternative rock and melodic metal with their eclectic sound. Moreover, not only does their sound “…blend heavy riffs, progressive grooves, and emotionally-driven vocals…in an ethos that blurs fact and fiction…”, but there is a diversity with each individual adding their unique background, experiences and ideas to the music. The latest addition to their discography is the single, ‘The Big Disconnect’.

Full-bodied and formidable, Sponsian captures the spirit of bands like Black Sabbath, Nine Inch Nails and A Perfect Circle with rock-trimmed tenacity of ‘The Big Disconnect’. On one hand, there is a brash crash of drums, bass, and guitar piqued with classic rock energy and ferocity; on the other, ‘The Big Disconnect’ is a swoon of breathtaking alternative-rock and metal with a vast darkness leering above, and your head twirling in the almost palpable, perfumed tension. Yet, as captivating and skin-tingling it may be, each crash, thud, pound and soar injects an odd, hard-hitting tranquillity into your veins; the fantastic high without drugs.

For me, ‘The Big Disconnect’ could fit perfectly in a soundtrack for Queen of the Damned or The Crow, with the evocative melody gathering dark lyricism executed by haunting vocals. The thing is, while it might fill the slot for some vampire movie, the theme and message behind ‘The Big Disconnect’ is far more profound. The band explains:

“This song portrays a dichotomy of modern society: working, caring for others, and being positive despite battling doubts, anxiety, and a sense of disconnection. Its intention is to let listeners know that they are not alone and poses the question, “What are you going to do about it?” as a call to action, or recognition of an inner strength which can be tapped into during challenging times.”
