Track of the Day: Tyler McGinnis – Geronimo (2026)

While Tyler McGinnis only has a single song to his name on streaming sites – this is according to Spotify – the US-based musician is no newbie in the music industry. Known for his powerful vocals and heartfelt storytelling, he is one of the founding members of the band, The Hipocrats, and has built a strong reputation for meaningful, enigmatic live shows and sessions. In fact, McGinnis’ YouTube channel boasts numerous live videos to be enjoyed, and I recommend you do so, after reading this review, of course. Now, stepping into his role as a solo artist, McGinnis releases his debut solo single, ‘Geronimo’.

Recorded by McGinnis, with mixing by Tim Graham and mastering by Rachel Field, ‘Geronimo’ is a quintessential country song complete with a twangy guitar, rugged vocals, and even that “whoa” shouted before the chorus.  Nashville on buttered toast, the track offers just over three minutes of McGinnis’ searing guitar, Jesse Gallaway’s bold bass, and crashing drums (courtesy of Gallaway) that simultaneously keep time and blip at a tempestuous notion. For me, it is McGinnis’ gritty vocals that tie a bow around the song – rough and rugged, but also warm, calm and grin-inducing.

Melodically, ‘Geronimo’ is the country song you hear once and just can’t forget. The lyrics might not stick immediately – except that “one, two, whoa” – but the infectious tune leaves you humming, smiling, and wanting to hit the repeat button even when it’s completely out of your reach.  A soulful song, you feel the tale instead of just hearing the words; perfect considering ‘Geronimo’ is a heartfelt tune about facing challenges and taking that brave leap to the midst of nowhere.

So, what are my thoughts about McGinnis and ‘Geronimo’? Simply put: let’s go… whoa!

In addition to the single, Tyler McGinnis released a live performance video for ‘Geronimo’. Recorded during his show at The Royal Room in Seattle, McGinnis takes centre stage to play his debut single for a live audience. You can view the video below and/or on his YouTube channel.
