All The Young – Something More (2025)

Quickly becoming one of the UK’s most “exciting new rock bands” back in the early 2010s, All The Young have now established themselves as one of the most notable bands in modern British rock. Formed in 2009 by brothers Ryan and Jack Dooley, All The Young were signed to Warner Brothers Records in 2011, released a critically acclaimed debut album, hit the UK charts and quickly found themselves touring with The Pigeon Detectives, Morrissey and The Kaiser Chiefs. After “weathering the highs and lows of major label life”, a revitalised line-up of Ryan Dooley (vocalist), Arron Darlington (bass and guitar), Tom Crompton (lead guitar), and Mike Davies (drums and percussion) continues to intoxicate audiences with their music. The latest addition to their discography is the single, ‘Something More’.

Following the well-received singles ‘Demon’ and ‘Bad Blood’, ‘Something More’ is a bold blast of alternative rock. Not a band to be heard, but rather experienced, All The Young’s melodies drag you into another world, kind of like the A-Ha’s ‘Take On Me’ video, but a little more kaleidoscopic. Holding your hand, All The Young take you into a sonic forest where you find yourself gazing at all the wonders around you while Ryan Dooley guides you with a smile.

On one side, Mike Davies grins behind his crashing drums, while Darlington brings a bold beat to the track; Crompton’s scorching guitar soars above, bringing bright twinkles to the air, and everything just seems to fit, setting your senses on fire with tingles down your spine and head-rushing joy. Recorded and produced by Gareth Nuttall, ‘Something More’ is elegant and charming, but the rambunctious arrangement – met by Dooley’s rugged but warm vocals – makes the track boisterous and confident, while simultaneously vulnerable and intimate.

Melodically, ‘Something More’ is a powerful swoop of sound; however, it is the lyricism that prompts the feeling of positivity, empowerment, and hope. Dooley explains: “’Something More’ is about rising above all the negativity in the world and believing that we can do better. Sometimes we can feel like it’s all just a waste of time, but we are something more than that!”
