Allan Jamisen – Living The Dream (2025)
Composer, painter, singer-songwriter – Allan Jamisen is an artist set to do just that: create art. At the core of his work is the desire for freedom of expression, and his multi-faceted nature highlights the essence of his work, “turning hate into love” by connecting through art. Even though the US-based Jamisen has a strong musical background collaborating with music industry professionals, performing at notable live venues, and selling paintings at renowned galleries across Denmark and the USA, this is my introduction to Allan Jamisen. Join me as I delve headfirst into his single ‘Living The Dream’.
Following the debut track ‘Rise Above’, ‘Living The Dream’ encompasses Jamisen’s celebration of life in all its grit and glory; to offer “…an immersive journey into seeking truth and working towards a life that genuinely excites you”. Produced with John X Volaitis (Natalie Cole, Tracy Chapman, Wailing Soils, Earth Eighteen, Smokey Robinson, etc), ‘Living The Dream’ is a nostalgic twirl of 70s/80s rock music.
Listening to ‘Living The Dream’ is entirely immersive, dragging me back to retro rock tones; however, while the soaring guitars meet crashing drums and glittering synths, blues-infused backing vocals bring a soulful kick to the kaleidoscopic sonic whirlpool. Sophisticated and elegant, the composition and production showcase the maturity of Volaitis, but there’s something raw, unfiltered, rough and innocent to the track. On one hand, Jamisen’s Johnny Cash grittiness offers that intimate intensity. Then again, I think it’s just the passion and conviction of rising above what is keeping you down that enhances the innocent veil.
So, overall, what do I think of Allan Jamisen and ‘Living The Dream’? ‘Living The Dream’ can be mesmerising. It’s one of those older songs you feel completely connected to, and if you sing along, you do it with a gruff imitation of Jamisen’s voice. When it comes to Jamisen, I feel his music is timeless – not only with the enduring power of passionate rock, but also the transcendence of ageless themes like, in the case of ‘Living The Dream’, a desire to reach the light at the end of the tunnel and find your own happy bubble.
