Anacy – It’s Not You (2025)

Raised in the rich multicultural society of South Africa, singer-songwriter Anacy draws together diverse traditions, experiences and cultures in her kaleidoscopic music. Technically a pop artist, the Cape Town-based artist offers pure pop production in her melodies; however, she simultaneously slicks various styles, riding on the wistful haze of synth-pop with ethereal dream-pop feelings and the sensibility of indie influences. Already garnering a strong following, her soul-stirring tunes resonate with emotional intensity, connecting on a level where words mean nothing and music is the only form of communication. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘It’s Not You’.

Following the well-received 2024 singles ‘Hot Mess’, ‘Delight’ and ‘Tattooed To My Heart’, Anacy steps into 2025 with ‘It’s Not You’. Lying somewhere between Lana Del Rey and Taylor Swift in her previous tracks, the silkiness of Anacy’s vocals brings a shimmering sweetness to the sonic bubble. Yet, while she retains the synth-driven dream-pop sheen in ‘It’s Not You’, there is a heavier tone combining pulsating drums, electric guitars, a bold bass, and shimmering keys in the immersive sonic fog.

Recorded and produced with Mpho Mantyi, ‘It’s Not You’ has the sophisticated elegance and maturity of skilled production; however, an allure of naivety and rawness lingers beneath the glistening exterior. Soft, soothing and smooth with languid tranquillity, listeners can enjoy the charm and laidback warmth of ‘It’s Not You’. The thing is – and this is where the melodical duality exists – Anacy’s gentle vocals explore the grittiness of inner turmoil, human fragility and emotional anxiety. She explains:

“’It’s Not You’ is more than just a pop song – it’s a mirror reflecting the internal battles many face when grappling with intimacy. The track encourages self-compassion and introspection, reminding us that sometimes the distance we maintain is not a reflection of others, but of our own fear and past experiences. It offers solace and validation to anyone who has ever struggled to open up, ultimately suggesting that the journey to genuine connection begins with understanding oneself.”

In addition to the single, Anacy released an official lyric video for ‘It’s Not You’. You can view the video below and/or on her YouTube channel.
