Asta Bria – Will You Love Me Tomorrow (2026)
Asta Bria is full of optimism on her new single, a cover of the legendary doo-wop group, The Shirelles’ hit song, ’Will You Love Me Tomorrow’. Bria re-envisions the romance in her version of Carole King’s composition. Bria’s delivery of the original lyrics, “Tonight you’re mine, completely”, is gleeful and sounds as if she has her lover in an inescapable embrace. Her voice hovers over Hugh Burns’ smooth acoustic samba rhythms, his playful electric country licks, and a gentle, bouncy rhythm.
The original version, with lyrics written by Gerry Goffin, sung by the Shirelles, is full of desire and genuine concern. King’s own version from 1971 is a heavy folk ballad where her longing casts an endearing spirit of a need to be loved over the song. Bria’s cover is grounded in gratefulness for what she has, reworking the original to fit her own music’s optimistic aesthetic. In uncertainty, she focuses on the love that’s there. On the lyrics where she has to face the fragility of a new romance, “You say that I’m the only one/But will my heart be broken”, she remains present with this person who brings her happiness. But also, in Bria’s version, uncertainty isn’t dealt with.
In a press release, Bria explains, “…My version strips the song back to ‘the voice’, this one is all about the beauty of those gorgeous lyrics”. This cover also brings in a different take on the original theme. But Bria and company barely convey the complex emotions that made those previous versions memorable.
Bria wants to wrap the listener up in the words and let her loving voice and the coziness the players create soothe us. But throughout, both the vocal and music melodies barely change. On the breakdown, a violin with a vibrant, majestic sound simply mimics Bria’s melody. The playing doesn’t attempt to go into desperate-sounding notes. Bria floats over this tranquil toe-tapping music, but doesn’t attempt any vocal progressions that could convey her feelings about uncertainty. Asta Bria’s cover of ‘Will You Love Me Tomorrow’ remains a tribute, but it’s a smooth listening experience, which is something to cherish.
In addition to the single, Asta Bria released a music video for ‘Will You Love Me Tomorrow’. You can view the video below and/or on Bria’s YouTube channel.
