Ava Valianti – Clean My Room (2025)
When you reflect on childhood, adolescence, the days before you had to start living in an adult world, things always seem somewhat calmer, happier, simpler and easier back “in the day” – even though it might not be or have been when you were sitting down trying to deal with those struggles. Singer-songwriter Ava Valianti captures the essence of growing up and all its emotional turmoil, both grit and joy, in her evocative music. At only 16 years of age, her intimate narratives resonate with this generation; however, the theme and sophisticated sounds have her connecting with listeners regardless of their age, location, culture, and everything that might be considered a boundary.
Following her well-received ‘Buttercups’ and ‘Distant’, ‘Clean My Room’ offers Valianti’s signature blend of folk-pop with strong indie-pop intonations. I might compare it to the likes of Lizzie McAlpine with its contemporary airiness and intimacy, and an inflexion of Olivia Rodrigo’s soulful sentimentality, but Valianti is quickly forming a distinctive sound with the concoction of heavier guitars, pulsating drums, and dulcet vocals tinged with slight obscurity.
‘Clean My Room’ is not merely a tune to blast from your speakers; it is a profound piece of music wrapped in a sentimental, fairy-like sonic package. Subdued and hushed, but simultaneously confident and bold, Valianti unpicks vulnerability with sophisticated maturity. For me, this laid-back melody is one to soothe your soul – almost like the salve to tend an open wound and drown the pain. The thing is, as much as the track tends to your pain, it isn’t afraid to lay everything bare in its confusion and tragedy. Valianti explains:
“This song came from a really personal place. It’s about the pressure to keep it together when you feel like you’re coming undone. It’s messy and emotional and honest, just like life feels sometimes.”
In addition to the single, Ava Valianti released an official lyric video for ‘Clean My Room’. You can view the video below and/or on her YouTube channel.
