Blindness & Light – Your Solitude (2025)

“Do not go gentle into that good night… rage, rage against the dying of the light” – iconic lines from Dylan Thomas’ poem, ‘Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night’, perfectly describe the core of post-punk group, Blindness & Light. Embracing the freedom of being an informal collective, the mostly UK-based group refuses to be defined, refuses to be restricted, and refuses to be ignored, lingering in the dark corners and bright halls of life’s journey. Join us as we delve into one of the most recent additions to their discography, ‘Your Solitude’.

Taken from Blindness & Light’s critically acclaimed album, I Dreamt I Had Insomnia, ‘Your Solitude’ is a drag back to the era of The Velvet Underground and Joy Division with old-school post-punk vibes oozing from the track. Produced by Blindness & Light, Colin M Potter’s soaring guitar winds about Melisa Dopazo’s bass, with Glenn Welman adding the bold drumbeats, all lost in a harmonic glow of kaleidoscopic sound. Interestingly, while the rhythmic grooves of all elements bind in a hypnotic sonic fog, a sense of clarity simultaneously bursts from the darkness with comforting hugs and smiles.

Melodically, ‘Your Solitude’ has the raw intoxication of a song that is both elegant but also a little gritty. Its sound already offers weightiness with post-punk flair, yet it is the lyricism that brings true depth to the single. Potter describes songwriting as “…base-jumping for the soul”, so it makes sense that ‘Your Solitude’ has the intimacy of someone pouring their soul into poetic words. When it comes to the new single, Potter explains:

“This is the 5th release off the 2nd album… We have no idea why this theme keeps reoccurring, but this is primarily about the hope of liberation of a socially repressed friend that hides away from the world.”

Languid and easy on the ears, ‘Your Solitude’ incorporates honey-soaked sincerity while retaining the spark of poignant heaviness oscillating between light and dark. Blindness & Light are currently recording their third album, but until its release, I can happily enjoy songs like ‘Your Solitude’.
