Chroma Noir – Sacrifice (2026)
Known for their blend of bright synthesisers and dark electronica, Chilean duo Chroma Noir lean toward the stylings of Depeche Mode and The Sisters of Mercy in their heavier, more gothic, old-school post-punk and synth-pop scheme. With their 2025 debut single, ‘Burned Into My Mind’, vocalist Mauricio Solari and multi-instrumentalist Mario Castro dragged listeners back to the 80s in a swirl of Depeche Mode-esque new wave, while the sophomore track, ‘Black Rain’, reached beyond the synthy style in its bold drums and insert of tenor sax blues. Today, they reach even further and showcase versatility in their new single, ‘Sacrifice’.
Recorded and produced by Nicolas Arce, who happens to contribute to the synths in ‘Sacrifice’, Chroma Noir’s third track retains the vintage post-punk vibe, shimmering with the dark, gothic abstractness of The Cure. A lush, cinematic soundscape invites you with its sort of airiness, wistfulness, and whimsy. Yet, while the overall melody sends you floating and twirling about in this fantastical sonic bubble, there is a heavier hit of rock wafting across the track. It’s like finding yourself in this space of Neverending Story dreaminess, but, as with the Neverending Story, darker dread ripples beneath.
While ‘Black Rain’ was clipped with a bluesy sax, ‘Sacrifice’ sweeps with a slide guitar’s rock sensibilities dipped in the post-punk/synth-pop tone. Solari’s baritone is powerful, but a sense of vulnerability is entwined in the execution. Guest vocals by Hidalgo’s Angeline Bernini simultaneously soften the single and enhance a feeling of haunting, fragility and a little bit of uncertainty. The dreaminess of their vocals amidst the openness of the synths and guitar, ‘Sacrifice’ has a romantic delicacy where a vibrant theme of renewed love comfortably exists.
“’Sacrifice’ trades sci-fi for dark fantasy… slower, dreamier, and more romantic, the track builds around imagery of ancient ritual and forbidden devotion, exploring the tension between destruction and renewal…” – Chroma Noir on ‘Sacrifice’
