Ciarán Moran – Give Up Your Love (2025)

Ciarán Moran – a name I only heard of today, but one that is already turning heads (and continues to turn heads) internationally. So, late to the party, but better late than never, right? From his confident, energetic performances on his native Irish music venues to supporting artists like The Wolfe Tones, Jamie Webster, and Macy Gray on their international European and North American tours, Moran is defined as one of Ireland’s most “compelling and authentically honest up-and-coming songwriting talents…”

Regarded as a highly innovative and original artist, Moran not only gives you a good song melodically, but delves into the grittier, grungier, “oh, let’s not talk about that” areas of life. His critically acclaimed singles, ‘Follow Your Soul’, ‘Mother’, and ‘It’s OK’ addressed issues from addiction and loss to resilience and hope – a celebration of life in all its tragedy and triumph. Today, we take a listen to his most recent release, ‘Give Up Your Love’.

While ‘Give Up Your Love’ has a strong pop flavour to the melody, there is far more beneath that gleam of pop music. Take a deeper look into the track on a sonic level: a slip of indie-rock brushes alongside a classic rock flair, while the Irish folk style binds everything in its traditional, toe-tapping wrapper. Soaring guitars meet crashing drums, offering a heady kaleidoscope of music; however, at the same time, there is a steadiness and soothing contentment as Moran guides you through the forest with a helpful, friendly hand.

The song may appear bright and sparkling with a smile-inducing, toe-tapping tone running amidst the guitars and drums, but lyrically, Moran digs a little deeper. Using his natural storytelling skills, he offers a narrative of lost love, regret, and yearning for true romance. Moran explains:

“’Give Up Your Love’ is a real breath of fresh air for me! A much more highly developed sound, smothered with some of Ireland’s best musicians performing on the track. It’s a soundtrack about a young man missing that chance every time with someone he thinks he could love…”
