CONCERTA – Blade Runner (2025)

Previously a merchandise director for Hyundai’s high-performance N brand, Seoul-based DJ and producer CONCERTA is building a solo music career driven by a “…desire to offer listeners the chance to completely immerse themselves in the healing properties of music, providing respite from the anxieties of the modern world.” Inspired by the soundtracks of 90s films, CONCERTA entwines personal experiences with her DIY approach to music. From composition to production, label creation – SYLQ Records – and distribution, CONCERTA is at the forefront in this labour of love.

With her 2025 debut EP, CONSUMPTION, CONCERTA notes that “This EP marks the first chapter of my musical journey…” – ‘Blade Runner’ is on this release. Self-recorded and produced, ‘Blade Runner’ slides behind ‘Apollo’ with the same ferocity, intensity, and high-speed rush of music. From the outset, the bold beats pound in from all angles, like a hook grabbing you at the navel and flinging you a million miles an hour through a massive tunnel – an aim to throw you to the end in one full swoop with head-spinning speed and raw rage grabbing at your heart.

I’m not one for hard-hitting EDM songs, but CONCERTA punches you on the chin, hits you between the eyes, kicks you in the gut, and you can’t help but feel this powerful storm is worth it. Coming in at just under six-and-a-half minutes, I can easily imagine this song winning hearts at any EDM festival with tiny little pricks tingling your skin, wriggling through your ears and intoxicating you, forcing you to jump about even though you’re dead tired.

Inspired by 90s film soundtracks, I’m pressed to identify the inspiration behind ‘Blade Runner’. Perhaps it’s the Wesley Snipes film Blade where he stars as a Dhampir – half human, half vampire. Then again, it might stem from the 1982 Ridley Scott movie, Blade Runner. It may even be flecked with some notion of The Matrix. The common theme? A futuristic crash of dystopian existence created by machines, but running about in a murky underworld.
