Emma Elizabeth – A Place to Call Home (2021)

There are a lot of people who feel out of place in the space they should be able to call home. This is something that Emma Elizbeth has felt and considers in her aptly titled single ‘A Place to Call Home’. Drawing on her own experience of travelling and settling in Barcelona, she looks at the process of creating a home for ourselves and how it is not always where we initially think.

Originally written on the acoustic guitar, she worked with her friend Liam Cloud to rewrite it on the electric guitar. With the help of musically talented friends and producer Theo Monteillet, Elizabeth was able to bring this journey home to life. While an uplifting story, the single is tinged with the things in life that we worry about, even when they don’t really matter.

‘A Place to Call Home’ uses this amazing guitar tone that grabs your attention and pulls you into the folky feel of the track. There is a warm vibe to the sound that makes you think of warm summer days, relaxing with loved ones on the grass, as the music weaves between you. The tender tones of the melody settle something in your soul you never knew you needed, while opening your chest and letting you breathe easily. While a relatively stripped-back melody, there is so much emotion woven into each note that you can’t help but smile to the sound. Each instrument brings a new layer of good vibes and fills your veins with bright happy energy.

Elizabeth’s vocals are as delicate and tender as the music, as she considers how we don’t choose those we love. There is a touch of sadness in the first verse as she acknowledges the potential for hurt, but this is cushioned by the happiness that you get from loved ones. Her voice is warm and adds to the peaceful vibes of the music. The single comes together for a great easy listening experience, that has a very important message woven into it. Elizabeth uses the single to bring a peaceful feel to our lives and lets us know that we can create a home for ourselves by being grateful for what we have.
