Further Line – Diamond (2025)
Making their arrival as one of Ireland’s most exciting new acts in 2024, trio Further Line turned heads with their EP release, nearly selling out the popular Dublin venue, The Sound House. Breathing life into the whispers of the 2000s pop-punk scene, but with a heartfelt, contemporary edge, showing a likeness to All Time Low and Good Charlotte. Released earlier this year – October to be precise – Further Line stomped into 2025 with their single, ‘Diamond’. Join us as we turn up the volume and find out what the group has to offer.
While their 2024 single ‘Restart’ – the previous track streaming on Spotify – ‘Diamond’ is heavier, huskier, and more heartfelt. Retaining a reminiscence to Good Charlotte, which I really don’t mind, ‘Diamond’ drags the best of pop-punk’s yesteryear to our ears with this new single. Yet, it seems far more innocent and intimate, discarding any likeness but rather stamping their own flavour on the music.
Produced with Al Quiff and Rohan Healy of Beardfire Studios, ‘Diamond’ is a joyful brush of pure, raw intimacy clasped in a powerful claw of music. From the bold bass of Jed Magsayo to the crashing drums of Sam Parcon and the scorching guitars of Paul Campaner, ‘Diamond’ is a bit of a rollercoaster emotionally and melodically. From the lighter wisps of harmonic pop-rock to a thrust of rough alternative rock, it’s up and down, encapsulating the intensity of its innermost meaning.
I find it apt that the melody is so vulnerable with a hint of fragility, as it delicately unpicks the experience of being a new father. Crafted with authenticity and care, it looks at this little child and how they change everything in their reality. As new dads themselves, the trio write, or rather sing, an ode to the powerful treasure in life proving that “…the smallest forms and that love, in its purest shape, can shine brighter than anything.”
For me, the part that plucks at my heartstrings and makes me smile is the ending vocals. The sound of a young child singing along and saying, “I love you, Dad”, is so simple but so overwhelming. I cannot wait for more from Further Line.
