Geräuschchaot – Weekend of Summer (2024)
Pouring his soul into his music, singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Maximilian Koch exudes creativity in his solo project, Geräuschchaot. Loosely translated as “noise chaos” or “sound anarchist” – an exclamation by his father who didn’t know how to deal with the constant drumming and music making – Geräuschchaot is the name and the concept of Koch’s hyperactivity and constantly on the go childhood days. Nowadays, the diagnosis for these individuals is attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), but that’s just a name, really. Reality digs deeper beneath the surface, and Koch brings this to others with genre-diverse music.
Originally socialised in the metal scene, the Germany-based musician soon discovered a preference for various genres, never really sticking to one, losing himself in a whirlpool of new sounds and styles. Today, we are introduced to Geräuschchaot with his single, ‘Weekend of Summer’. Join us, won’t you?
Self-recorded, produced and performed by Geräuschchaot, ‘Weekend of Summer’ is the 2024 debut single preceding the currently available sophomore track, ‘Oft gesagt’. At its core, ‘Weekend of Summer’ is a rock song; however, the influences of various genres form a jigsaw puzzle of the melody – each style represented as a puzzle piece in the five-minute journey.
From the softer rock opening to a folk-influenced soothing, then hit quickly with a metal crash of drums, then returning to an alternative rock flow before the harder beat engulfs you once again… then the soft rock exit. The crashing drums and soaring guitars have a rollercoaster effect, but the rhythms seamlessly alter with a mellifluous quality – not to mention Koch’s heart-warming vocals; you don’t feel fearful, uncomfortable, or the kaleidoscopic swirl of rock music. No, it is this calm transition that adds weightiness and profoundness in its comfortable thread.
Sincere, sentimental, and a gentle waltz with an old friend through a charming, elegant wash of music, I highly recommend everyone take a look and listen to Geräuschchaot.
