Goth Fight Cage – I’m Not In Love With You (2026)

The brainchild of musician Mark Holloway – known for his work with Belfast’s “heavyweight fuzz champions” Fagash McCann – Goth Fight Cage is leaning further toward sharp indie-rock sounds as compared to the heavier Fagash McCann. With several single releases since his 2022 debut album, As If I’d Forget, Holloway is not only turning heads with his solo project, but is turning heads far beyond his Northern Ireland borders. Built on a strong DIY ethic, with Holloway shouldering the duties of songwriting, singing, composition, performance and production – all coming together at a room he describes as “all the instruments at one end, a computer at the other and a bed in the corner” – Goth Fight Cage is simultaneously rugged with imperfect edges and off-kilter elegance. The latest addition to his discography is the single, ‘I’m Not In Love With You’.

Following his well-received 2025 single ‘tired’, ‘I’m Not In Love With You’ retains a shimmer of The Strokes in its hard-hitting, head-spinning indie-rock tones; however, it seems slightly more stinging than ‘tired’. From the outset, Holloway grips you with both hands at a head-spinning pace – kind of like an arm grabbing your chest and thrusting you into a high-speed arrangement. Blazing guitars clip the air with pounding drums in the background and a bold bass running along; however, just as much as the melody keeps you buzzing, it has a sweet jangling sound that dances along, making the impact less severe and kind of fun.

Self-produced with mastering by Joel Harkin, the sound tends to lean toward “scrappy lo-fi/garage sounds…” as Holloway shares, “…The gear I like to use is simple and mostly broken.” Interestingly, the grittiness of the home production perfectly aligns with the theme of unrequited love. A one-sided conversation where the desired person tells the other that this just ain’t working, ‘I’m Not In Love With You’ is blunt and straightforward, unpicking the complexities of unrequited love.
