Keren Ram – Keep Walking (2022)

Music has the power to heal, comfort and empower and singer-songwriter Keren Ram wants to share this power with audiences. For about 25 years (give or take), Ram has been writing, composing and performing original music in Israel and beyond. She became a prolific producer, arranger and vocal coach, but the time spent away from her music brought on “a period of self-destruction and dramatic, life-threatening weight gain” – this is when she discovered the raw power of music. With the help of melodies, she saw the light at the end of the tunnel and lost 150 kilograms – quite a feat. Following a long hiatus, she returns to the scene with her single ‘Keep Walking’.

Inspired by her partner, Ram started composing her debut single ‘Keep Walking’. It is a song where she touches on body image, loss, anxiety, inner conflict, lack of self-worth and fear; however, despite the fragility of the song, it is more empowering as Ram pushes a narrative of overcoming vulnerability and having a “lust for life”. Interestingly enough, the song is about empowerment, however, it is also a commemoration of her partner who died tragically before ‘Keep Walking’ was released.

While the lyricism showcases Keren Ram’s depth, the melodic arrangement is what sends your soul soaring. A nostalgic sound, there are elements of 80s folk with indie-rock throughout the ballad. Yet, while Ram takes us to the days of yesteryear, she retains a contemporary edginess placing ‘Keep Walking’ alongside modern-day artists. Rich, full-bodied and intriguing, ‘Keep Walking’ is a warm and bold song, but the thread of vulnerability exists in the arrangement enhancing the intense intimacy of the music.

Sincere, sentimental and heart-warming, Keren Ram returns to the music scene with her tender single ‘Keep Walking’.
