König Kobra – NIE WIEDER (ft Alarmbaby) (2025)
No longer drawing on the idealistic youthfulness of their earlier punk rock roots, German six-piece König Kobra offers the reflection of older individuals on society with a punk rock core. Removed from the rose-tinted bubble, Billy (vocals), Roicke (vocals/shouts), Hannes (guitar), Carsten (guitar), Wolle (bass), and Pätroon (drums) are fully aware of life’s challenges – not only the monotony of everyday difficulties, but also the overarching influence of an uncertain society with political injustice. Using their music, they bind individual maturity with striking social responsibility in a bold contrast of punk and melodic metal. The latest addition to their discography is the single, ‘NIE WIEDER’.
Translated to never again, ‘NIE WIEDER’ follows the powerful track, ‘In der Weihnachtsbäckerei’, with a gobsmacking hit of music. Joined by Alarmbaby, ‘NIE WIEDER’ weaves together a melodic metal underlying the rush of punk carried across as pop-punk dances across the song. A shimmering weave of scorching guitars, a bold bass, and pounding drums, ‘NIE WIEDER’ is a whirlwind of chaotic music; however, just as the song oozes tempestuous rebellion and whips past your head in its insanity, there is a sophisticated movement from dizzying heights to steady lows in harmonic unity. A creative expression of societal discord in its instability, but the union of many standing against socio-political disorder.
Listening to ‘NIE WIEDER’ is a truly immersive experience with wild chants of “nie wieder” carried along in the song. The combination of rich melodic vocals, joined by interspersed shouts, is like staring at a peaceful protest – the power of a never-ending mass, but with individual signs dotted across, increasing the power of the protest’s message. It’s not just a meeting of people, it’s a meeting of minds and a reminder that no government or authority has power if communities stand up to overcome indifference and disillusionment.
