LEMY – НА ВЕСЬ МИР (2025)

I’ll admit this was my first time listening to a full record sung in Russian, and it turned out to be a refreshing, sometimes surprising, experience. LEMY is a vocalist and musician who thrives on not being boxed in. She builds her sound out of reverb-drenched guitars, shimmering synths and vocals that move between vulnerability and strength. Her music doesn’t simply occupy genres, it shifts between them, borrowing from indie-rock, synth-pop, shoegaze and even experimental electronic textures.

The opener begins in a way that almost tricks the listener. At first, it feels like you’re standing in a rehearsal room, the sound still raw and settling into itself. Then, the drums and guitar crash in and suddenly everything sharpens into place. The intro is on the longer side, nearly a minute, but by the end, the way the guitar pushes the song forward alongside the vocals really drew me in. The electric guitar riffs hooked me immediately (I’m a sucker for them), and the piano layered over the top adds a kind of haunting beauty. It’s a strong way to introduce the record, slowly pulling you in before fully revealing what LEMY is capable of.

The second track takes a completely different path. Here, the mood is gentler, leaning more into a pop spectrum. The arrangement is stripped back, letting the vocals shine against a quieter backdrop. It might not be as immediate or attention-grabbing as the opener, but it still works.

Then comes the third track, which, for me, is the standout of the entire project. From the first strum of the acoustic guitar, it feels intimate and inviting. Layered harmonies float in the background, giving the track warmth and depth, while the simplicity of the arrangement allows every little detail to shine. I found myself humming along before I realised it, even though I don’t speak Russian. There’s something universal in the melody that bypasses language altogether. And the bassline in the bridge is unforgettable: deep, playful, and full of movement, it gives the song an extra dimension that elevates it beyond just “pretty” into something truly magnetic. It’s the kind of song I immediately replayed after it ended.

The fourth track pulls things back into indie rock territory. It’s energetic, sharp, and does a solid job of keeping the pace, even if it doesn’t leave quite as lasting an impression as the third. The closing track, a collaboration with HOPA HOPA, feels bigger and more playful, but I have to admit, I think LEMY shines brightest when she’s steering the whole ship herself.

Even if I can’t write out the song names in Russian here, each track made its mark. НА ВЕСЬ МИР is the perfect genre-blurring introduction to LEMY’s world. It’s a record that proves language doesn’t need to be a barrier when the music itself speaks so clearly.
