Lily Crow – Pity Prescription (2025)
At the tender age of 21, singer-songwriter Lily Crow is only just stepping into the complex world of adulthood. Relationships, careers, finances, a place in society – all these things are yet to come for the US-based musician; however, despite her young years, she delves into intricate reality with sophistication and maturity. Come with us as we leap into her most recent release, ‘Pity Prescription’.
Following her well-received 2024 debut EP, pretender, Lily Crow saunters into 2025 with the single, ‘Pity Prescription’. Recorded and produced with Charlie Agnacian, ‘Pity Prescription’ maintains the ’90s rock sound that is becoming distinctive of Crow; yet, it swerves toward a heavier pop-rock tone as compared to previous indie-rock and slight grunge styles. Crashing drums, a bold bass and soaring guitars unite in a harmonic rock rhythm, but individuality is retained as each instrument grabs your attention within the sonic whole.
In a rush of kaleidoscopic sound, ‘Pity Prescription’ wriggles into your head, slithers down your spine, and leaves you starry-eyed with its melody. The thing is, as much as the melody holds its own, the true glory of ‘Pity Prescription’ lies in its lyricism and theme.
Co-penned with Gianna Caruso, Kate Alyse and Riley Black Limbert, Crow delves into the realm of toxic relationships. She dips into the aftermath of feelings after leaving the relationship, checking both sides of the coin – empowering freedom by leaving, but painful vulnerability when leaving. Teeming with a palpable sense of uncertainty, ‘Pity Prescription’ “explores the inner conflict between wanting to stay and the struggle to leave… not only questioning the other person, but questioning herself…”
This is my introduction to Lily Crow, so I was eager to have something or someone new blaring from my speakers. With her enchanting voice, hard-hitting melodies, and poetic lyricism, Crow showcases an emotional awareness and depth that only hints at her potential success. I cannot wait for more from this emerging artist.
