Little Known – The Richest Man (2025)

Quickly establishing themselves as one of the most exciting indie-rock groups in Ireland, Little Known can hold your heart in the palm of their hands and win you over with effortless ease – I mean, with music, not literally. Fusing the musical stylings of Liam Daly (vocals and guitar), Finn Walsh (bass and synth), and Liam Berry (drums), the trio immerse listeners in a whirl of shoegaze, indie and alternative rock music; a sound where emotions are intricately intertwined with melody. The latest addition to their discography is the single, ‘The Richest Man’.

Following their well-received singles ‘Headwreck’ and ‘Let Me Be Myself’, Little Known bring ‘The Richest Man’. Produced by Brian Casey, ‘The Richest Man’ is a step back to the 90s with a strong rock-inspired melody. Opening with a soothing, gentle and languid combination of a steady bass, drums, and guitar, you feel a sense of harmony in the track. Yet, as much as there is harmony, a tint of melancholy rustles the sonic leaves – it’s like it’s creating a comfortable lull within tumultuous unease… and then it flips.

A sonic rollercoaster, the rhythmic ride quickly shifts into overdrive with pounding drums, a soaring bass, and powerful guitar riffs capture the chorus, and bring even more rolling feistiness as the song leads out. Melodically, Little Known tosses you from pillar to post in a head-whipping twirl of music; however, even as you go on this ride, Daly’s vocals act as an anchor in the single.

Known for their intimate intensity, Little Known upped the ante with the lyricism of ‘The Richest Man’. The band explain:

“’The Richest Man’ is a song written for and dedicated to our friend Billy, who passed away in November 2023. It started as an instrumental which was played at his funeral, and it turned into a way of processing the loss through writing the lyrics for the song.”

Little Known has released a live video of them performing ‘The Richest Man’ at The Pavilion last year. You can view the video below and/or on their YouTube channel. Go on, treat yourself and be part of the crowd – well, online at least.
