Liya Shapiro – Another Woman (2026)

Eager to step into the grittier side of human existence, singer-songwriter Liya Shapiro explores the depths of identity, mental health, and love in her fragile, emotional music. While we know her as a musician, Shapiro is an academic, having studied the history of art, fashion and anthropology. Instead of simply leaving those studies behind, she uses each field to shape her artistry and the way she interprets sound. This is our introduction to Shapiro, but she is already turning heads internationally, earning a strong global following, and has been making a splash on the music scene since 2021. Join us as we dive into her new single, ‘Another Woman’.

Joined by Zak Michaud (bass), Luan Mourao Silva (drums), Clarrie Macklin (electric guitar), and Iona Catherine (violin), ‘Another Woman’ weaves crashing drums, haunting strings, soaring guitars, and Shapiro’s off-kilter voice in a theatrical blast of music. Not a song to simply hear, but a song to be experienced with each wave of sound and blast of obscure vocals, ‘Another Woman’ might be shoved into an alternative chamber-pop genre; however, the oscillation between powerful crescendos and crashing dips brilliantly captures the almost palpable tension of this poignant track.

For me, the rollercoaster of music is more than a clever embrace and sauntering across dark decadence. For me, the movement and tone of the melody perfectly capture the painful torment of unrequited love. The point where you know you’re moved on, but still seeing the person moving on breaks your heart. Shapiro explains: “Watching someone you once loved be with someone else when you never even got the chance. Knowing it’s irrational, that you don’t even love them anymore, but feeling it anyway.”

The theme song to those late nights when you are checking that person’s relationship status on Facebook, or scrolling through images of them being perfectly happy with someone else, all while eating a tub of chocolate ice cream, ‘Another Woman’ is desperate, brimming with fragile vulnerability. I don’t recommend putting yourself through the pain of dwelling on the past, but I definitely recommend you listen to ‘Another Woman’.
