Macatier – Fade Away (2025)
Combining raw talent with seasoned experience, singer-songwriter Macatier (also known as Dan Dudek-Brown) sweeps across the UK and beyond, sharing his intriguing indie-punk sound. Formed in the early 2010s, Bristol-based Macatier is known for his powerful songwriting, confident performances, and a way of injecting the passion of a live show into studio-recorded releases. Since 2012, he has released one album and four EPs to critical acclaim, earning a loyal following across the UK and now beyond those British borders. Join us as we delve into the most recent addition to his discography, ‘Fade Away’.
Following his 2023 EP Dark Patterns, ‘Fade Away’ is a slight-somewhat-almost return to the music scene release-wise. Using a DIY approach to music production, Macatier self-records and produces all of his material in his home studio, and honestly, the intimate quality is evident in the melodies. With ‘Fade Away’, he weaves together shimmering keys, soaring guitars, and a bold bass in a synth-y haze of sound. Yet, as much as there is a fogginess about the single, the pulsating drumbeat acts like an anchor in what might be considered a breezy flush of veiled music.
Soothing and soft, ‘Fade Away’ rubs vintage post-punk with a vibrating gleam of synth-pop trimming the edges. For me, it’s a drag back to the days of Depeche Mode; however, a timelessness lingers in the track, adding weight to the song.
Diverging from his darker tones in Dark Patterns, ‘Fade Away’ could be a pivotal point for Macatier, taking his music in a new direction. Given this is the first track from an upcoming EP – set for release later this year – perhaps this is an evolution and growth in Macatier’s musical journey. I wait with bated breath for more from this talented musician.
