Makena Tate – Missing Me (2026)
While some people run from and try to hide their skeletons in the closet, singer-songwriter Makena Tate celebrates them. Accepting the chaos, the uncertainty, the grit, the grim, and the fragile side of life, Tate reflects and embraces what makes her who she is today. Of course, it’s not all vulnerable tragedy; amidst the bad, you find the good, and she celebrates the joy, hope, fun, cheer, and glowingly sweet life, both past and present. Join us as we take a look at her most recent release, ‘Missing Me’.
Following the 2025 single, ‘Nobody Wins’, Tate sheds her skin and breaks forth with her new single, ‘Missing Me’. Described as a dark, cinematic pop song, the track has somewhat dark lyricism and themes of past relationships and their complexities. Tate explains:
“I’ve dated a lot of guys with pretty common names, so I’ve got used to seeing their names on an almost daily basis. I wanted to write about that through the lens of being pulled back in time when seeing one of their names. It never fails to remind me who I was at the time… A hazy, emotional flashback amidst the disorienting feeling of being transported back to an old version of yourself after something as small as seeing an ex’s name.”
With her rich vocals, Tate holds your hand with a comforting connection, showing that we all have those dark moments; however, it is the melody that both pushes the heavy song, consuming you, but also notes the sweetness and innocence of Tate’s voice. Produced by Michael Leto, ‘Missing Me’ stands out in its twice-bass, triple-drums layering, beating from each side, yet while the tone is intense and suffocating, it also fills you with bittersweet tenderness.
In addition to the single, Makena Tate released a video for ‘Missing Me’. Removing the consuming instrumentals, and just laying it bare, this “isolated vocals” video is intimate, honest and raw. You can view the video below and/or on Tate’s official YouTube channel.
