Matt DeAngelis – Livin’ It (2025)
“Believer, peace, love for all, positivity, storm chasing” – the first line you see when you visit Matt DeAngelis’ official website. A positive person by nature who celebrates both the best and worst in life, showing that even if you’re in a difficult situation, there is still hope. The storm chasing part – well, DeAngelis is an advocate for climate change, and it’s a pretty darn good, not to mention really cool, way to spread awareness of climate change and its effects on the planet. Today, we step away from his storm chasing to listen to his music – an instrument used to spread optimism even in the darkest of situations.
Following the well-received single, ‘I’m Just The Keyboard Player’, DeAngelis releases ‘Livin’ It’. Joined by Billy Kennedy (guitar), Eric Bishop (bass), and Cole Herudek (drums and percussion), with DeAngelis on piano and vocals, ‘Livin’ It’ is a solid combination of old-school soft rock. From the soothing piano and the bold bass, to the soaring guitars, crashing drums, and slips of percussion with a mandolin dancing across. Influences of Yes are evident, but for me, it is not merely the rock melody that wins my heart with nostalgia; it is the ease of the arrangement and the camaraderie of the musicians flowing from the track.
Produced by Billy Kennedy and Tom Conran, ‘Livin’ It’ stands tall with its melody, but it is the lyricism and message that make the single weighty. DeAngelis explains:
“’Livin’ It’ is a song that was conceived during the pandemic and is meant to convey the fearful and unknown world we continue to live in with reluctance for what is to come… This track is particularly significant in light of the unrest and hypocrisy we are now living in… Although the future is still uncertain, there is still hope in living if we’re living through a higher power.”
In addition to the single, Matt DeAngelis released an official music video for ‘Livin’ It’. You can view the video below and/or on his YouTube channel.
