Meet The Fawkers – Too Mean To Die (2026)
With “…enough grit for any seasoned blues-rocker but enough swing to fill any dance floor”, Irish trio Meet The Fawkers is a cover band that morphed into an original artist while retaining their reputation for energetic, enthusiastic and high-spirited sets. So, regardless of whether they’re playing their own stuff or something else – setlist options include Chris Stapleton’s ‘Tennessee Whiskey’, Chuck Berry’s ‘Johnny B Goode’, and even the Cranberries’ ‘Zombie’ – Meet The Fawkers can turn your head, keep the grooves flowing, and make every moment of listening to their music sensational.
While I might not find myself tapping my toe and boogieing down at Meet The Fawkers’ live gigs, the camaraderie and penchant for good music transcends performances, pouring through my speakers and dragging me to the dance floor instead of staying in my armchair. The latest song to reach my ears is their most recent original release, ‘Too Mean To Die’. Join me as we engage in this musical journey.
Recorded and produced by frontman and guitarist Matthew Faughnan, with mastering and mixing by long-time collaborator Tadgh Kelly, ‘Too Mean To Die’ is Meet The Fawkers’ first single of 2026. Rhythmic and harmonic, Deanna McDonagh’s drums keep the pace steady – an anchor in soulful melody – while Faughnan’s guitar takes you on a tremulous journey with the heart-tugging, melancholy style typical of any good blues-rock ballad. Calum Goodway’s bass locks in, enhancing the heart-tugging attitude of ‘Too Mean To Die’.
Melodically, ‘Too Mean To Die’ is simplistic and barebones, but simultaneously a kaleidoscopic weave of raw emotion bound in a poignant package. The instruments hit you between the eyes, and the lyrics are moving “…painting the picture of someone who’s been fighting too long but is still too stubborn to give up”; however, it is the overall vocal execution that gives the track a little something-something. Faugnan’s rich vocals soar with warm emotion, honesty, and tenderness, yet hold a gritty ruggedness.
In addition to the single, Meet The Fawkers released an official music video for ‘Too Mean To Die’. You can view the video below and/or on their YouTube channel.
