Michellar – The Star (2025)
It’s that time of year again, so get out those Michael Bublé CDs, prepare for those Christmas movies, put up your Christmas stockings, and let’s trim the tree. The tinsel, the baubles, the fairy lights and, of course, the star or angel up top. We may not know it, but that star is far more than a colourful thing to adorn a Christmas tree – it’s a symbol of hope, love and joy – and Michellar shares these sentiments in her new single, ‘The Star’.
The second Christmas single from Michellar, the first being 2024’s ‘Its all about christmas’, ‘The Star’ is a soothing piece of folk-inspired music. Driven by Michellar’s guitars, the acoustic guitar slowly strums along with heartwarming tenderness from the outset. With simplistic steadiness, it runs its course as if humming along with the vocals; however, a quick, interspersed clip from an electric guitar plucks at the tune with a mischievous edge.
Soft, gentle and calm, this is the Christmas song you play in the background for everyone to enjoy. Although it is also the flowing tune you sing when loved ones (and even the dudes that just seemed to arrive as a friend of a friend of a friend) gather in front of the fire to share those special moments. Speaking about ‘The Star’, she explains:
“The influence on this track comes from those folk songs like Dan Fogelberg. Dan Fogelberg’s songs had a certain atmosphere that takes you back to the homey feeling with a bit of poignancy and reflection. I was reflecting on all those Christmas seasons when everything around you, especially family, holds a really close and special place in our hearts. That warmth one feels during this special time of the year often gets misplaced by everyday ongoings throughout the year. This season reminds us how family is so special to have and cherish.”
Alongside her single, Michellar released an official music video for ‘The Star’. You can view the video below and/or on her YouTube channel.
