Michellar – We Both Can Fall (2025)
Slow but steady; keep calm and carry on; keep going, keep growing – all three sayings to promote the power of resilience, strength, and hope for a brighter light at the end of that proverbial tunnel. We all face challenges and darkness sometimes, but the key is to stay positive, breathe, and understand that sometimes carrying on is the superpower. Singer-songwriter Michellar captures the raw emotion behind this powerful message in her new track, We Both Can Fall’, delicately unpicking the determination to continue in the winter of discontent to embrace happiness on the other side.
We first came across US-based Michellar (also known as Michelle Bond) a little while back, and since our introduction, we have followed her work closely. Using an evocative brand of folk – or walking through the realms of folk – each single touches on a particular thread in our being, making for relatable, resonating, intimate connections. She acts like a friend, sharing stories, picking up memories, looking to the future, and just making you feel comfortable. In ‘We Both Can Fall’, Michellar touches on how people can lose sight of each other, but there is a hope to continue holding hands in the darkness. She explains:
“There are many troubled couples in this world. I… myself have been going through some rough times with my marriage in the past months because of the transitions I have been going through… mostly because songwriting has taken over my life. My life hasn’t been the same since I started writing songs in 2023. My habits and schedules have changed drastically, affecting our everyday lives. This song was written because I wanted to get back to where we were somehow… This is a significant release because it is an outcry of emotions that I felt in my current world.”
Lyrically and conceptually, ‘We Both Can Fall’ is an insightful song with weighty poignancy. Melodically, the concoction of acoustic drums, piano and guitar enhances the seriousness of the message while injecting a soothing calmness to the soul-stirring folk tune. Add a lingering hint of strings to the mix, and you have an orchestral edge. Yet, it is the vocals that truly capture my heart as Lou takes you on a rollercoaster journey of skin-tingling sentimentality.
