After a lifetime of not releasing any singles, traveller, storyteller and adventurer Mike Stewart “cracked open his brain…” presenting audiences with songs that are “…the culmination of life lived in smoky green-rooms, on cramped tour buses and in more studios than he can remember…” Focusing more on his music as a singer-songwriter, while still keeping his production skills shining through, Mike Stewart offers lovelorn ballads, country-rock rave-ups, and late-night jams in his discography. Following his 2025 album Evereverland, and a taster of his upcoming album Mikey2Hats Birthday – set for release in October – Mike Stewart Theory reaches our ears with a bold electronic meets alternative pop single. Embracing the joy of remote collaboration, ‘It Reaches Us’ was crafted through cyberspace from Austin, Texas, to London, England, and Bad Iburg, Germany by band members Mike Stewart, Marcus Praed, and Martin Schmeing. Don’t forget Jennifer Ellen Cook and LeeAnn Atherton bringing up the rear with their vocals.
Somewhat simplistic in one way with each instrument having a degree of individuality and prominence, ‘It Reaches Us’ has this weird sparseness to it; however, that being said, the combination of synths, bass, keyboards, guitar and drums entwine in a kaleidoscopic, psychedelic swirl of sound. An adventure of sorts, losing yourself in the wistfulness of this multi-coloured bubble, but loving each fun-filled moment. I find it intriguing that the melody has a lightness and lifting ambience, which so perfectly captures the theme of ‘It Reaches Us’.
