Moorby Jones – Light Is A Story (2022)

While Moorby Jones is a UK-based trio releasing music for the first time in 2019, the conception (even though they didn’t know it was happening) began over several decades ago. Originally meeting as members of the 70s rock band Tintangel, Steve Moorby and Dick Jones formed a creative bond as musicians; however, the lads lost contact with each other after the band was dissolved. Skip forward a few decades and the pair reunited about seven years ago with a plan to create music. Add Moorby’s daughter Gemma and you have the potent, passionate and innovative group Moorby Jones.

Following their third album Other Plans (released in 2021), ‘Light Is A Story’ is the debut single from Moorby Jones. Influenced greatly by singer-songwriters of the early 1970s, ‘Light Is A Story’ has a classic rock meets folk sound to it. Soft, soothing and laidback, the single sends you off on a glistening sonic river with its melody and bold vocal execution. As you glide away, you see a plethora of stars burning bright above you and there is an easiness in your heart as you listen to the tender arrangement. Yet, while ‘Light Is A Story’ is gentle, there is a profound rock and roll thread woven into the kaleidoscopic sonic tapestry.

An intense intimacy exists in ‘Light Is A Story’ as Moorby Jones reflects on “…life, light and beauty in the natural world.” Interestingly enough, the rich, warm and full-bodied vocals also bring a sense of vulnerability to the song with introspective lyricism. It is this that draws together sophisticated creativity and wistful innocence in ‘Light Is A Story’.

Sincere, sentimental and heart-warming, Moorby Jones breathes life into the modern-day folk-rock scene with a nostalgic flair.
