mylittlebrother – Soldiers (2025)

Known for their energetic, engaging and enthusiastic live shows, UK-based mylittlebrother sweeps their magical sonic wing across audiences effortlessly ensnaring senses. With this confident stage presence, mylittlebrother has made notable festival appearances – including headlining Kendal Calling, Wild On The Wall, and Haddstock – received invitations to perform with Frank Turner, and is deemed “eclectic, hard-to-pin-down, and a standout act”. Today, we take a moment to listen to their new single, ‘Soldiers’.

Following a year of extensive national tours, honing their sound, and crafting the follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2020 album, Howl, mylittlebrother returns with the track, ‘Soldiers’. Leading to their third full-length album, Throwing Darts At Maps (set for release later this year), ‘Soldiers’ is a slow, steady, somewhat melancholic melody embracing vintage Oasis indie-rock with a slip of Dodgy peeking from the background. Yet, as much as I hear old-school Britpop meets indie-rock floating along the track, the rich vocals combined with a bold bass, rhythmic guitars and powerful drums allude to contemporary indie sounds.

As if taking listeners along a sonic channel with a comfortable ferry ride – hey, ferries can be comfortable – ‘Soldiers’ glistens with light bouncing off the gentle ripples in the water. The lads seem to stand beside you with big smiles on their faces, quickly plastering a grin on yours. Interestingly, while ‘Soldiers’ offers that raw vulnerability linked to inner conflicts, the song is inspiring within its poignant message. Frontman Will Harris explains:

“’Soldiers’ is about the mental armour we all wear, especially when life’s difficult, and what happens when we try to drop that guard. It’s the most honest and personal song we’ve recorded in a long time.”

Produced at Polestar Studios with Alex Blamire, mylittlebrother set the tone “for the band’s most sonically ambitious and emotionally open record yet” – enter Throwing Darts At Maps. In a laidback, charming, “wow, this is so relaxing” way, ‘Soldiers’ makes us realise mylittlebrother is the band everyone always needed but didn’t know we needed it. I cannot wait for more from mylittlebrother, but until then, I’ll keep ‘Soldiers’ on repeat.
