Nicklas Sahl – Trampoline (2025)

Embracing a love for music at a young age, singer-songwriter Nicklas Sahl picked up a guitar at age four… the rest is, as they say, history. In 2018, the Danish musician began his musical journey, releasing his well-received debut single ‘Hero’. In 2019, he won an MTV EMA for ‘Best Danish Artist’ and was nominated for two Danish Music Awards. Today, we find Sahl as a notable rising Danish artist – one who is quickly becoming a mainstay on an international scale. While we missed his beginnings as a studio artist, we are pleased to make it to the party (even if we are a bit late). Join us as we take a look and listen to Sahl’s most recent single, ‘Trampoline’.

Following his 2024 singles ‘Der Står Et Lys’ and ‘Restless Peace’, Nicklas Sahl leaps into 2025 with ‘Trampoline’. Recorded and produced with Birk Storm, ‘Trampoline’ saunters through the realms of pure pop and folk-pop in its moving melody. A soaring guitar matches shimmering synths with percussion popping from the background – all bound in a happy, fun-filled smoosh of organic and electronic sound. Rich, warm, and bright, ‘Trampoline’ is a melodic bounce as sound whips across your face; however, it is Sahl’s vocals that bring the caressing embrace of a kind friend joining you in this journey.

For some odd reason, listening to ‘Trampoline’ reminded me of South African singer-songwriter Johnny Clegg’s music; it’s the lingering twang of its obscure guitars giving it this Afropop flavour. It’s strange, but in the same breath, comforting with its tenderness and hopefulness. It also adds a sense of calm and serenity to the melody – a theme conveyed in the lyricism. Sahl explains:

“It’s a finely tuned and hyper-perfectionist world we live in. In the rush, it’s easy to lose yourself. I think that’s why I’ve felt the need to seek out the opposite – to slow down and spend time trying to understand my human flaws in a more nuanced way, not just beating myself up over the mistakes I made but instead seeing the strengths that often lie hidden within them.”
