Nova Dream – Lights Out (2025)
Beginning as a collaboration between Joshua Bartschi (bass and vocals) and Gabriel Rizzo (guitar and vocals), Nova Dream has been driven by a mutual passion for musical expression. After recruiting the dynamic drummer Danny Mcguire, the Irish trio was formed and has been carving its name in the UK and Irish alternative rock scene. Known for energetic performances with a confident, enthusiastic stage presence, Nova Dream are building a loyal following; however, you don’t have to be in the audience to enjoy the fist-pumping vibe. By merely hitting the play button on any of their melodies, you can feel the magnitude of their engaging show. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Lights Out’.
Following their well-received 2024 singles ‘Black Cinema’ and ‘Rearrange’, ‘Lights Out’ drags the grit of grunge to indie-rock tones with heavier, weightier blends of alternative rock. The band shares that “at the time of recording, we were more into bands like Placebo, Biffy Clyro and Idles…” – a mixture that is evident in ‘Lights Out’s atmospheric sound. For me, however, it is not the style that defines the tune, but rather the immersive nature of the single.
Recorded and produced at Darklands Studios with Dan Doherty (mixing) and Pete Maher (mastering), ‘Lights Out’ is another facet of Nova Dream’s personality. Immediately tossing you into a dark sonic pool with sludge blocking each step, the rush of drums and guitars appears raw, rugged, and tragic. Yet, just as there is a darkness to the track, an oscillation between the depths and hopefulness of light emerges.
With passionate vocals seemingly pushing you forward and holding your hand, ‘Lights Out’ is a journey of fun, fear, and emotional growth. The band explain:
“The song touches on themes of an inner search in uncertain times, where people are constantly trying to find clarity among a flood of competing narratives. It’s about holding onto a sense of direction in a world where everything feels blurred, loud, and fast-moving, as if things are losing their light.”
