Oslo Green – GRAND (2026)
Known for binding classical roots with contemporary production, musician Oslo Green may have a traditional, orchestral training in violin, yet touches modern-day audiences with sweeps of electronica, hip-hop and old-school funk. Taking in every experience and existential issue he, and all of us, um… experience, Green’s music is not only eclectic in its style, but a direct expression of reality’s diversity, challenges and celebrations. His latest album, No Strings Attached, was written and produced, as Green puts it, “…on the go, I blended in what I picked up from different places… you might notice many flavours and languages.” Join us as we delve into the closing track, ‘GRAND’.
A creative expression of life in its totality, drawing together international cultures, No Strings Attached allows people to take a good look into Green’s thoughts, his situations, his relationships, and everything that makes him Oslo Green in an evolving musical identity. The synth-filled, electronic-tinged, cinematic swirl of alternative-pop music, ‘GRAND’ brings a twinkling close to No Strings Attached, following hip-hop ‘MaYbe’ and an unusual, barebones, piano-driven flush of pop in ‘No Strings Attached’. This leap from bold beats to soothing tones, and then ‘GRAND’s shimmering swirls easily showcases Green’s diversity, innovation and fearlessness to explore different genres.
Obscure – that’s one of the easiest ways to describe ‘GRAND’; it’s grandly obscure, taking you on a melodic walk that is part stroll, part trudge, part saunter, and part dance. Co-produced with Lyri Achai, with mastering by Asaf Shay and mixing by Or Shaish, this split yet weave of brash, pulsating electronic beats and smooth orchestral strings brings two worlds together in a moving track. For me, the quickening in pace with hip-hop vocals and a charming violin backing is the sweet-spot; the point where everything comes together as one in a grand, uncomplicated but still intricate experience.
So, my thoughts on Oslo Green? An interesting artist, no doubt. His music intrigues and clips at the poppier side of things with a heavy, biting edge. I have to admit, I prefer the tracks ‘No Strings Attached’ and ‘Queen Spade’, but ‘GRAND’ is a great introduction to a recommended musician.
