Paul Gehl – Devils and Demons (2026)
With a zealous earnestness and soulful enthusiasm, singer-songwriter Paul Gehl brings light, solace and empowerment to the darker, more difficult parts of life. Drawing inspiration from his struggles and triumphs, his music is a type of therapy and, hopefully, allows him to connect with others on a deeper level. Gehl explains, “Writing and playing music has always had a therapeutic effect on me, and that’s the main reason I’m doing this.” Join us as we continue on this sonic journey with Gehl’s new single, ‘Devils and Demons’.
From composition and writing to recording and production, the Luxembourg-based musician takes pride in every aspect of his creations. With ‘Devils and Demons’, Gehl is joined by Ed Taub on production, composition and performing duties, and what a performance it is. Following the grunge-driven ‘Through The Darkness’, ‘Devils and Demons’ is flecked with 90s grunge influences; however, a stronger leaning toward hard rock exists.
The bass offers an anchoring pulse, while thrashing drums seem to beat against the melody in a heavy, yet steady tone. The soaring guitar swims elegantly amidst the instruments and rises into an intriguing classic rock solo, before falling into a harmonic melody. One aspect I find interesting is how the tune is a pulsating, pounding, weighty pressing of noise, yet is simultaneously vulnerable and innocent. A perfect alignment with the profound theme. Gehl explains:
“Living with bipolar disorder has shaped my life in a way where I learned to take the few good weeks I have in a year and make the best out of them. It’s really about learning that the small things might be all there is and that acceptance of what is is a key ingredient to a meaningful life, even when it’s mostly very rough.”
Hard-hitting and skin-chilling, ‘Devils and Demons’ is rich and full-bodied with an odd sense of sparseness and barebones fragility. I highly recommend this track and ask you to keep your eye on Paul Gehl.
