Peiriant – Song In Parts (2026)

Find the line between articulate classical simplicity, tender folk sincerity, and atmospheric post-rock tones – then blurring it all – Peiriant is a combination of violin and electric guitar reaching all the edges of a cinematic soundscape with tender, eclectic and experimental passion. Hailing from Wales, Rose and Dan Linn-Pearl offer a sound with “…layers of drone and dissonance, contrasting with songs and pure tones… sound art to weave experimental music that is anchored in the Welsh landscape…” Now, this is our introduction to Peiriant, but the duo is no new face in the Welsh music scene, as members of concert series NAWR, featuring on international radio stations, and earning critical acclaim across the globe with rave reviews. Today, we take a listen to their most recent release, ‘Song In Parts’.

Taken from their upcoming album Plant, set for release in late February, ‘Song In Parts’ follows the well-received single, ‘Pwls’ (or Pulse in English). Rhythmic, pulsating and full-bodied, ‘Pwls’ has a tightly-woven sound offering something that is both choppy and cinematic; ‘Song In Parts’ diverges somewhat from this. Recorded and produced by Sam Grant at Blank Studios, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, ‘Song In Parts’ is smoother with a more mellifluous tone, yet the obscure entwining of separate sections offers the same choppy, off-kilter lilt – a sound seemingly unique to Peiriant.

For me, and this might seem a little strange, ‘Song In Parts’ flickers with Eastern musical stylings. While I’m aware of the violin’s swift rise and fall with haunting tinges, there is an odd slip of an erhu as an off-kilter lilt. Is this the intention? Probably not, but the idea of ‘Song In Parts’ being performed at a Chinese ceremony is not altogether impossible. Just as the violin takes you on an emotional journey from the soul-stirring highs and delicate lows, an acoustic piano weaves and belies the violin.

As if working on separate tracts, the exquisite layering has each instrument travelling along an individual path, walking apart while simultaneously dancing together; it is as if each element is a lover quietly approaching the other with hidden smiles, slow breaths, and the thrill of touching hands with a quick twirl of delicate, kaleidoscopic passion. Sincere and serene, but with enigmatic curiosity, ‘Song In Parts’ is a fantastic introduction to a breathtaking duo.
