Ro Malone – Hello Hello Sunshine (2025)
Inspired by life and all the complexities of simply being you, singer-songwriter Ro Malone moved from Ireland to the US – Los Angeles to be exact – pursuing creative expression with moving music, writing and singing for a Venice Beach TV/film music house, and “scoring work” with internal campaigns for brands like Colgate. In addition to sharing her musical talents in films and advertisements, Malone connects with listeners using her innovative original works. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Hello Hello Sunshine’.
The first release from Malone in two years, or at least according to Spotify, ‘Hello Hello Sunshine’ marks a pivotal point in her journey. While retaining a lean toward the pop sound, this new track seems to infuse elements of soul, funk and a sliver of folk peeping in the back. Co-produced with Roberto Murguia, ‘Hello Hello Sunshine’ is a kaleidoscopic sonic river with ripples carrying you along in its super-happy music. Pianos bring the bright blue, while guitars slice in with a vibrant red, percussion shimmers in muted hues of green, and Malone’s silvery voice leads the way.
Bright, bubbly and brimming with “oh, this is so much fun” sentiments, ‘Hello Hello Sunshine’ is a refreshing breath of grin-inducing good vibes. Interestingly, while this bubble of joy lifts your soul, it comes from a darker, more tragic place; Malone’s personal narrative offering an intense intimacy. She explains:
“The song is a juxtaposition, like many fun/happy sounding pop songs, it stems from a slightly unhinged place. The song I wrote is about my own personal challenge in living with recurrent MDD and how it always seems to rear its ugly head at the most inconvenient time. Quite literally, my doctor gave me pills and they did help until they didn’t, and then I was basically like a zombie for three years… I came to realise that ‘I’d rather ride the waves and stick around, just so I can say hey, hey, hey, hey, Hello Hello Sunshine’”
