Saline Eyes – Alone (2025)
The brainchild of singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist James Hackett, Saline Eyes is a musical project sauntering through the realms of pop and rock music, forming a vibrant sonic palette of indie greens, pop reds, and shimmering rock blues. While he stands before us today as a critically acclaimed musician, his love affair began early in life when, at the age of 5, he held a guitar in one hand and a passion for music burning in his heart. This is our introduction to Saline Eyes, so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect; moreover, I’m extremely late to the party as Saline Eyes has turned industry heads across the globe, collaborating with professionals like Lee Levin and Maxwell Stern. The latest addition to his discography is the single, ‘Alone’.
Following his well-received singles ‘No You And I’ and ‘Separate’, Saline Eyes’ self-produced single ‘Alone’ takes a step down from indie-rock tones to something soft and gentle. As an acoustic track, there is beauty in the simplicity of organic sound; however, the weave of acoustic instrumentation kicks with kaleidoscopic whimsy as ‘Alone’ fuses bold drums, haunting strings, a dynamic guitar and a sprinkle of piano with Saline Eyes’ vocals.
While ‘Alone’ certainly offers a degree of elegance in its production, it simultaneously has an experimental untidiness. The instruments work together, but there are moments when they collide in an eclectic sonic haze. As a song to unpick the complexities of relationships and meditate on the theme of isolation and loneliness, ‘Alone’ perfectly captures the sentiment of a confused mind in its cluttered sound. Then again, perhaps it’s just an experiment filled with obscurity and heading off on a long, winding path.
In addition to the single, Saline Eyes released an official lyric video for ‘Alone’. You can view the video below and/or on his YouTube channel.
