Sebastian Rydgren – Talk To Me (2026)
Unpicking the delicate vulnerability and fragility of human emotion, singer-songwriter Sebastian Rydgren delves into the complexities of relationships with elegant pop music. In his single, ‘how i wanna die’, he turned reflectively inward seeking that moment and feeling you wish you could stay in forever, while ‘In My Dreams’ explored the ideal of a perfect relationship where you know the fantastic bubble won’t last but want to savour those happy moments. Today, Rydgren taps into that decisive hinge where you decipher love’s perfection from the chance of a shattered hope in his single, ‘Talk To Me’.
“The song captures the delicate moment when a relationship is on the line. When everything depends on hearing the words that confirm that both are ready to choose each other… It is about how to balance between total perfection or a shattered future solely depending on whether the other party utters the affirmative words.” – Sebastian Rydgren on ‘Talk To Me’
Recorded and produced by Simon Karlsson, with mastering by Peo Hedin, ‘Talk To Me’ retains the upbeat pop tones of ‘how i wanna die’, yet the new song leans further back to 80s synth-pop sounds. A combination of swift synths carpets the melody, giving it a comforting, warm flavour; however, the energetic electric beats push you along with urgency, adding a type of high-voltage brush to a cushy lull.
Using a timeless pop tone to express an ageless theme, Rydgren holds your hand as he guides you through the field of romance, looking for security amidst the confusion of shattered dreams. Often reminding me of Adam Rickett with his rich vocals, the Swedish musician warms your heart with his dulcet timbre while still keeping a sense of fragility and vulnerability in the wistful undertones. As I said, he often reminds me of Adam Rickett, but not entirely, having developed his own distinctive sound.
So, what is my overall opinion of ‘Talk To Me’? Whispery but confident; powerful and weighty but filled with whimsical sensitivity, ‘Talk To Me’ is a song to win your heart. I have recommended Sebastian Rydgren before for his emotive melodies and lyrics, and I do so again with ‘Talk To Me’.
