Shane Rennison – Lonely Days (2025)

Should you take a fancy to Dermot Kennedy, Noah Kahan or Bon Iver, the chances are you’ll quite enjoy the stylings of Shane Rennison. Hailing from the USA, Catskills-based Rennison embraces the power of pop-rock and entwines it with the intimacy of indie-pop and folk-pop in his original melodies. We first came across this singer-songwriter a couple of years ago when we spoke with him about his EP, Nice To Meet You. Today, we take another delve into his discography with the recently released single, ‘Lonely Days’.

Following his 2024 EPs, Live at the Qutlier Inn and Irrational, Rennison steps into 2025 with ‘Lonely Days’. Produced with Julian Giaimo, the single leans toward contemporary pop sounds with its cinematic soundscape and upbeat shimmers of synths and bold beats; however, a slice of indie-pop slivers through the track with a heavier twinkling of light. Interestingly, as much as the song has a haunting twinkle fluttering through the melody, its soothing, content ambience evokes an odd sense of vulnerability and fragility.

While ‘Lonely Days’ is a single you can blare through your headphones or speakers without too much fuss, it is a song that immerses you in the music and theme. Vibrant and kaleidoscopic, you swim through a sonic river, but, and this is where duality continues to shine in Rennison’s music, the comfortable tone trembles and offers a barebones brashness and emptiness in a bold but stark symphony.

It’s odd to say the least. No, not odd like an ostrich wearing a sombrero, but an off-kilter intensity brimming from the track and executed with Rennison’s rich vocals. The thing is, ‘Lonely Days’ might be chilling, but it is also accepting, empowering and a song of strength and resilience. When speaking about ‘Lonely Days’, Rennison shares “…real peace sometimes requires walking away, even if it means being alone.”

In addition to the single, Shane Rennison released an official music video for ‘Lonely Days’. You can view it below and/or on his YouTube channel.
