Shelly Bom Pop – I’m Getting Old (2026)

Raised in a musical family steeped in traditional Irish music, singer-songwriter Shelly Bom Pop grew up with music flowing through his veins. During his late teens, he emerged as the drummer for District, before heading to indie-pop band The Collision as lead vocalist – formative experiences that shaped his artistry and embedded him in the Irish indie scene. Influenced by a diverse scope of artists, ranging from The Beatles to Tyler, The Creator, the Belfast-based Shelly Bom Pop offers his own brand of infectious melodies laced with poignant lyricism. The latest addition to his discography is the single, ‘I’m Getting Old’.

His first step into 2026, and following the well-received EP, A Bleeding Sky, ‘I’m Getting Old’ is a song about… well, getting old. When you find yourself saying, “back in my day”, or begin checking the wrinkles around your eyes or sit back pondering how quickly time is passing, you might think you’re getting old; this is what Shelly Bom Pop’s new track explores. He explains:

“It’s a bit stupid to be worried about getting old when you’re still young, but it’s something I’ve been freaking out about lately… I’ve started obsessing over my hairline and worrying about little stray hairs falling out. You can tell yourself to cop on, but that’s hard when you feel like you’re wasting your life and watching yourself age in real time.”

Recorded and produced with Michael Bell, ‘I’m Getting Old’ is a guitar-driven wash of indie-pop music. Riding alongside the soaring guitar are pulsating beats and a shivering set of synths twinkling in the background – all a type of representation of the ageing individual. The drums are a heartbeat, while the synths are the doubt, and that guitar… oh, that guitar, is the conscious understanding and sigh-inducing flush of “oh damn”.

Toe-tapping and uplifting in its bittersweet pondering, Shelly Bom Pop says what everyone who has more wrinkles or feels the weight of the world wants to say in ‘I’m Getting Old’.
