Silk – Clementine (2026)

Once in a while, a band comes out of nowhere and hits me with the feeling that they could be my new obsession. That is exactly what Northern Irish heavy shoegaze act Silk have done with their new single ‘Clementine’. Guitarist and songwriter Michael Smythe has managed to create a fantastically thunderous sound with an ethereal sensibility that needs to be heard by all fans of the shoegaze greats, such as My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive, but with the intensity of Kyuss and Deftones to create a unique sound that I just can’t get enough of.

From the opening bars, ‘Clementine’ grabs your attention; the guitar provides a solid base to then layer more and more onto the sound with haunting vocals and a pumping bass. I was lost in the riffs for the entire song. I love the way it blends a haziness we all love about the shoegaze sound, but adds a level of angst and aggression that gives it a character all of its own.

With ‘Clementine’, Silk has kept the rhythm steady and consistent without it becoming boring; it is a sound that just takes hold of you and won’t let go. It is one of those tracks where talent meets purpose, and I firmly believe Smythe has found his purpose with Silk. The fact that this is one guy’s vision astounds me, as it is so well put together and, even more so, that it is a project in its infancy with only a handful of singles and a few hundred Spotify monthly listeners. It makes me relish the thought of what is coming next.

Thankfully, with a mini-album, Auralux, due on May 7th, there isn’t long to wait, and I can’t wait to share my thoughts on it with you all closer to the time. Until then, let’s all give Silk the love they deserve and support a great band who I have a strong feeling are going to be one of the best acts to come out of the British music scene this year!
