Social Gravy – These Are The Times (2025)
The self-described “romantic rock ‘n’ rollers”, US-based duo, Social Gravy, are willing to take a waltz through the realm of rock, stuffing each moment with raw honesty and evocative sentiments – kind of like gravy seeping into your Sunday roast. While Brad Kohn and Vee Bordukov have been sharing their music with the masses for a decade, this is our introduction to the group. Join us as we delve into their most recent single, ‘These Are The Times’.
Following the well-received 2024 single ‘Lone Wolf’, Social Gravy saunters into 2025 with their song ‘These Are The Times’. Self-recorded and produced, ‘These Are The Times’ steps away from the heavier classic rock sound of ‘Lone Wolf’, leaning further toward lighter, more toe-tapping pop-rock tones. A steadier song, for lack of a better term, the soaring guitar weaves with dynamic drums, while a bold bass lingers in the rock-inspired tune. Interestingly, while the track has a soothing rhythm moving in harmony, each instrument – including the rich vocals – stands out, adding their own piece to the kaleidoscopic jigsaw.
With greater clarity to its production, ‘These Are The Times’ oozes sophistication and elegance in its delivery. Not simplistic in the sense of minimalistic execution, but rather, using this clarity, the track stands out with raw honesty and barebones innocence. A band known for, as I said, stuffing each moment of their music with evocative sentiments and emotion, ‘These Are The Times’ is a reflection on life in its present, past and future.
Melodically, the single breathes life into nostalgic whispers of 90s pop and alternative rock; however, the lyricism offers greater weightiness, being timeless in a sense. Brought about by Kohn’s former girlfriend “…who became the muse for the song with her eyes-wide off-hand quip, “These are the times, Bradley, these are the times” after an award ceremony in Santa Monica, California…”, the poetic words subtly capture the importance and celebration of life with varying trends and moments of that time.
In addition to the single, Social Gravy released an official lyric video for ‘These Are The Times’. You can view the video below and/or on their YouTube channel.
